How to Stay On-Brand on Social Media & Use Canva Templates
Staying on-brand on social can be soooo challenging for so many brands. I SEE you holiday promotions. But what would you say if I told you your social media content doesn’t have to be a total guessing game!?
I’m here to talk about Canva templates. The beauty of premade templates is that they’re less time-consuming and as a business owner, I know first-hand how your time is of the utmost importance. I’m allll for a time saver these days but here’s the thing about social media templates — it’s easy to end up pulling random things together and end up with a hodgepodge of branding that doesn’t fit your business aesthetics or translate well to your audience which I 100/10 do not recommend.
You might be thinking okayyyy so should I not be using these then!? Here are my thoughts. USE THEM. Lean into premade templates BUT use them correctly.
Step 1: Stick to Your Brand Guide
I can’t preach this enough. If you have a brand color palette and brand fonts, stick to them, baby! When you do this your audience doesn’t recognize what content is yours and your social content isn’t uniquely branded to you which means you’re less likely to leave a meaningful impression.
Step 2: Pick ONE Template Style
In the world of Canva templates and premade templates, I recommend sticking to one style — whichever style matches your branding the closest! For example, are you a candle maker using only natural ingredients? Pick a template that has an organic, sustainable vibe to it. (Hi, we have one that would be perfect for you!) And as if I haven’t said this enough already, SWAP OUT the fonts and colors for your brand-specific elements.
Set Yourself Up for Insta Success
While the biggest mistake I continue to see in the small biz world is grabbing random Canva templates and using them without any strategy or reason behind them other than simply liking them there are a few others I want to call out to set you up for Instagram success!
Mistake #1: Using a reel cover photo that has literally nothing to do with what the reel is about. Not to mention, I don’t really want to click on the reel if I don’t know what it’s about.
The Solution: Using a reel cover photo with text that shares what the reel is about so people a) know and b) want to click and watch it!
Mistake #2: Making a carousel post that is incredibly difficult to read.
The Solution: Editable templates designed with type hierarchy so it makes digesting the information a breeze.
Mistake #3: Changing fonts and colors as often as you change your undies.
The Solution: Buy a template and stick with it. Use your brand fonts and colors if you have them and be consistent.
Mistake #4: Not using Instagram stories to its max potential. Being so worried about the grid and missing out on a huge opportunity to connect and engage via stories.
The Solution: Use our instagram story templates that encourage conversation and instagram’s interactive features.
At the end of the day, the goal is to be consistent so that your brand can stay top of mind. How is anyone going to remember you if you change up your look as often as you change your undies!?
