2024 graphic design trend report

four big trends on the rise in 2024 that we love + one that we lowkey hate.

It’s official. It’s 2024 and if you’re like me you’re probably HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE. I’m not sure why but the fact that it’s 2024 is still not setting in for me and I still can’t believe the new year is here. Either way — to kick off the new year, my team and I decided to do something fun and new! We’re predicting five major trends we think will be on the rise in 2024.

From more COLOR, intricate details, and experimental design treatments to interactive design, bold statements, and let’s not forget AI generated imagery here are our design trend predictions for the new year.

cottage core

While this is definitely a trend we were introduced to in 2023, I think cottage core will remain on the rise this year! Our 2023 bow obsession will carry over into the new year with all things frilly and floral. Think a play on detailed patterns contrasted against refined, flirty serif-style typography. It’s giving all things garden vibes and dinner parties — celebrating a slower pace of life (which I’m trying to implement in my every day) through hand-drawn, imperfect illustrations and lettering that feels like a personal, hand-written note. My inner girly girl is vibing with this trend!

Millennium bubbles

It’s giving early 2000s with the comeback of bold, 3D bubble typography. And if I’m being honest I’m not toooooooooootally here for it — but hey to each their own! I think it can be done SUPER well and can be impactful I just am afraid that it’s already feeling a bit overdone and just isn’t something I totally resonate with on a personal level. With alllll that being said, I think we’ll see a lot of animation and bubble letters on the rise this year. Really leaning into the Gen-Z aesthetic, I predict more design and type that is unexpected and experimental (which I am totally here for!). And while we should always be keeping accessibility at the forefront, I picture things going a little rogue with this trend via warped typography.

Eclectic Grandpa

Honestly, I am HERE for this one. The design itself is a vibe and the name is just too good IMO. I’m visualizing a country club-esque aesthetic with an eclectic vibe to it. We’ll see a return of the formerly dreaded primary colors but with an elevated twist. Typography will start to feel more preppy with serifs and scripts and I predict we’ll see more bold, simple patterns full of color.

Organic minimalism

As we head into 2024, I think more and more brands will want to showcase their sustainability and eco-friendly efforts. I see this coming into play through packaging, messaging, and the overall brand experience. I’m picturing kraft paper, earth tones, and minimal type.

Modern Maximalism

While minimalism within branding (and #allthings in general) is still very prevalent, I think we’ll continue to see bold statements within the design space. From bright color palettes to diverse typography, I predict a lot of playful, eclectic, and expressive elements across the industry. I’m ready for our color era!

As tempting as it is, remember not to just jump on all of the latest trends when it comes to your branding. Instead, you want a brand that’s tailored to tellYOUR story, speaks to YOUR target audience, sets you apart from competitors, and that will stand the test of time. If an intentional and strategic rebrand is one of your goals for 2024, we’d love to be part of your story!
